New hardcover book with
dustjacket. 484 pages
Travel with Kylie Kwong as she rediscovers her Chinese heritage, exploring
the food and culture of a vast and enigmatic country. Her inspiring journey
takes her from the rural simplicity of her ancestral village in China's
southwest to the wilds of the Tibetan plateau and the stylish modernity of Hong
Kong and Shanghai.
Whether searching for the perfect dumpling in Shanghai, exploring the
contemporary art scene in Beijing and Hong Kong, rifling through sacks of spices
the size of mattresses in Chengdu, or marvelling at the silkiness of freshly
made noodles in Xi'an, Kylie is tireless in her quest for new experiences and
encounters, cooking up a storm and winning hearts wherever she goes.

About the author
Kylie Kwong was born
into one of Australia's oldest Chinese families in Sydney, Australia. Kylie
has cooking in her blood. She learnt the fundamentals of Cantonese cooking at
her mother's side, and went on to develop her strong artistic style by working
as a graphic designer and cooking at home, before stepping into the food world
full-time. Kylie then honed her skills with several of Australia's most
respected chefs, including Neil Perry and Steve Manfredi, and worked at some of
Sydney's finest restaurants - Rockpool, Wockpool and Restaurant Manfredi.
At billy kwong, in Sydney's
Surry Hills, Kylie has realised her dream of pouring her heart and soul into her
own restaurant. And it is a resounding success story, constantly bursting at the
seams with hungry diners. She combines traditional family recipes with the
latest ideas and techniques. The result is an exciting new blend of Chinese and
contemporary Australian cuisine. Kylie is a passionate advocate of sustainable food and ethical eating. Her restaurant's menu uses only local, organic and biodynamic produce, and in 2007 became the first carbon friendly restaurant in New South Wales. In 2009, Billy Kwong won the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide's inaugural Sustainability Award. Kylie is the author of Recipes and Stories, Heart and Soul, Simple Chinese Cooking, My China and It Tastes Better, and has been the presenter of three television series.
