Use hardcover book 200 pages, dustjacket is missing, unfortunately. Book is in very good condition. Publication date not given, but the National Library has it on its database and gives the publication date as 1956. Lots of black and white and colour photos throughout the book.
Thousands of letters have been received by the Australian Women's Weekly over the years clamouring for the presentation in book form of a selection of the popular, easy-to-prepare and appetising recipes which have consistently featured in the pages of Australia's greatest women's magazine. Bowing to popular demand, the cookery experts of the Australian Women's Weekly have collected together the very best of the Weekly recipes published in the past to which they have added several excellent original recipes too. This fine volume, the fruit of their efforts, needs no further commendation.
Nothing has been bound too simple or too complicatied for inclusion in the Women's Weekly Cookery Book. Every variety of recipe has been used, from a simple steak casserols to the classical Crepes Suzette for which clear, concise and practical directions have been offered. All tastes have been catered for.
There are chapters on soups, fish, meats, poultry, vegetables, salads, sauces, hot and cold sweets, savouries and sandwiches, lucheon snacks, cakes, candies and drinks. Everything worth cooking has been included.
Perhaps one of the most popular chapters will be the chapter on International Dishes which offers an excellent selection of recipes from the kitchens of several countries of the world. (Note from Judy - I can't find a single pasta recipe in the whole book. In the International chapter, there is one Italian recipe, for Zabaglione. We've come a long way, haven't we?)
Lavishly illustrated and expertly presented as it is, The Australian Women's Weekly Cookery Book is undoubtedly one of the finest of its type ever published and an essential item in every home.
